Russia does not intend to comply with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling requiring Georgian citizens to pay over 250 million euros, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated. When asked about the possibility of improving Russian-Georgian relations if the payment were made, Peskov noted that the Kremlin views this issue as a separate matter.

Today, the decision of the European Court was published, according to which the convicted ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili was denied transfer to Warsaw for treatment. At the same time, Georgia was not instructed to transfer him to another medical facility within the country. Minister of Justice of the state Rati Bregadze said this at a briefing. According to him, this decision shows that all the actions of the country were correct and met high standards of human rights. There are no prerequisites for transferring Saakashvili to another clinic or back to prison, according to Bregadze.
The minister also called the statement that foreign doctors are not allowed to visit the ex-president a lie. According to him, all appeals to the department on this issue were in the wrong form.
Mikheil Saakashvili has been treated at the Vivamed civilian clinic since May 2022. His health deteriorated after a 50-day hunger strike, which he declared after his arrest on October 1, 2021. His relatives and politicians from different countries have repeatedly asked the Georgian authorities to transfer him abroad for treatment.
