The EU is concerned about Georgia's "trajectory" moving away

The EU is increasingly concerned about Georgia's distancing. This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

"We are increasingly concerned about the trajectory of this country, which is moving away from the European Union," Borrell said.

Earlier, the EU also stated that the Georgian authorities' plans to ban opposition parties if they win the parliamentary elections will not go unanswered. At the same time, the speaker of parliament Shalva Papuashvili reported that information about plans to ban all political parties is disinformation.

In December 2023, Georgia received candidate status for the European Union. However, later the ruling Georgian Dream party adopted a law on foreign agents. Thousands of people protested against it in the streets, and partner countries called on the Georgian authorities to abandon this decision, since the new law is an obstacle to the country's European integration.
