Former Georgian Interior Ministry official Lasha Shergelashvili, who served as the head of the Armaments Department of the Special Operations Directorate, said on Formula TV that a banned substance was used to suppress a protest outside the Central Election Commission in 2020. When asked if he had any suspicions, he replied that he "knew for sure that it was used" as he was there at the time.
The Georgian authorities expressed concern about the actions of Kyiv. The reason is the trip of the former Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General of Georgia, current adviser to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Zurab Adeishvili as part of the Ukrainian delegation to Germany and Belgium.
Tbilisi noted that Adeishvili “was one of the creators of a repressive regime that for many years violated the principles of democracy and the rule of law. Its reception in the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany undermines the idea that the European bureaucracy is committed to the rule of law."
The Georgian government demanded that Ukraine hand over Zurab Adeishvili to Tbilisi, as well as the former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the current deputy head of military intelligence of Ukraine Georgy Lortkipanidze.
Let us recall that in March 2022, Ukraine recalled its ambassador from Tbilisi due to his country’s refusal to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation. In July 2023, Kyiv “expelled the Georgian ambassador under the pretext of the dying condition of the ex-president, who was under arrest, Mikheil Saakashvili.
