"Kholod": More than half of Chechen residents do not support the war with Ukraine

If the Russian authorities decided to withdraw troops from Ukraine, 71% of Chechen residents would approve. Only 39% support Russia's war against Ukraine. Such data was presented by the publication "Kholod" based on the results of a telephone survey conducted in September by sociologists from the "Chronicles" and ExtremeScan projects.

In Dagestan, 51% of respondents support the war in Ukraine, but 54% would support the withdrawal of troops.

In Russia as a whole, 49% of the population supports the withdrawal of troops from Ukraine. There are significantly fewer opponents of this decision - 33%.

The share of Russians who are ready to go to war under a contract with the Ministry of Defense is 14%. The same was in February 2023. The number of citizens who are not ready to sign a contract has increased by 9% since February 2023 - to 29%.

A total of 5,500 respondents from 10 regions of the Russian Federation, including Chechnya, Dagestan and Krasnodar Krai, took part in the telephone survey. The sample for each region was 500 people.

"Kholod" notes that in the conditions of censorship and repression, it is impossible to fully trust the results of sociological surveys, but they do allow us to track the dynamics of public sentiment.

The results of surveys in Chechnya do not reflect the real picture, an expert sociologist from Chechnya emphasizes in an anonymous comment to the magazine "NOVY DOSH". "In the conditions of a harsh dictatorship, people say not what they really think, but rather what they think sociologists want to hear from them," because residents of Chechnya consider any surveys initiated by the authorities, and therefore, they answer to please them, the interlocutor explains.

In addition, according to the expert, the overwhelming majority of Chechens, who themselves suffered from two wars of Russia, associate themselves with peaceful Ukrainians, who become innocent victims of missile strikes and bombings by the Russian army.
