Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze expressed Tbilisi's readiness to take all necessary measures to restore ties with Ukraine as much as possible. Following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Yerevan, the Georgian politician emphasized that, despite existing difficulties, relations between the countries have a long history of friendship.
Irakli Kobakhidze officially became Prime Minister of Georgia
President Salome Zurabishvili signed an order appointing Irakli Kobakhidze to the post of head of the Georgian government. Earlier, the country’s parliament expressed confidence in him: 84 deputies voted for, 10 against.
Kobakhidze will officially take office as Prime Minister of Georgia in the coming days, after which he will sign an order on the appointment of ministers. The first meeting of the new government will take place on February 12.
Irakli Kobakhidze, 45, will become the sixth prime minister from the ruling Georgian Dream party, which has been in power since 2012. Before his appointment, he was the chairman of the party. From November 2016 to June 2019, he served as Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia.
