The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has published a report alleging that Georgian authorities used chemical weapons during the suppression of pro-European protests in Tbilisi in 2024. The chemical weapon in question is bromobenzyl cyanide, a chemical warfare agent dating back to World War I, also known as "kamit."
Due to potato shortage, Russia is forced to make record purchases from Georgia
Georgia sent 16.3 thousand tons of potatoes to the Russian market for $6.8 million. This is a record monthly figure - in April last year, there were no such deliveries at all.
Since the beginning of the year, Russia has purchased 42 thousand tons of potatoes from Georgia for $16.9 million. This figure is also a record.
In March, consumer prices for potatoes in Russia on average more than doubled, and in some regions - more than tripled. The nominal price of potatoes on the consumer market set a historical record - 72.75 rubles per kg. In the Far East, it reaches 200 rubles.
In 2024, the volume of commissioning of potato storage facilities for agricultural and trade organizations fell by 15.5% year-on-year compared to the 2023 level.
