Azerbaijani opposition journalist Afgan Mukhtarli commented on the house arrest and criminal prosecution of former head of the presidential administration Ramiz Mehdiyev, calling it logical and symbolic.

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, called on the Dagestan police officers, who the day before detained the Minister of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Chechnya Alikhan Tsakaev, to be “expelled from the structures with a bang.” According to him, the detention occurred without explanation. The minister did not have documents with him because he left on his day off.
“If Tsakaev had been in his general’s uniform, the post officers would have been afraid to even look in his direction. This is what happened later. When the attackers found out that they were dealing with a general who had a number of military merits and awards, they fled in cowardice,” Kadyrov said. He appealed to the leadership of Dagestan so that the police officers would be punished.
On April 14, several police officers dragged Tsakaev out of a black SUV at the Gerzel checkpoint in the Novolaksky district and laid him face down on the asphalt. According to law enforcement officers, Tsakaev did not have documents with him. After some time, the minister was released; no medical examination was carried out.
