Kyiv is preparing a "legal response" to the actions of the Georgian authorities
In his evening address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the introduction of sanctions against the Georgian government. This will be a legal response to the actions of the Georgian authorities to disperse the protests. According to the Ukrainian leader, "the authorities in Georgia are pushing the country towards obvious dependence on Russia."
"It is simply shameful what they are doing now against their own people. And when Moscow praises this government in Georgia, this clearly defines who they are working for in Tbilisi now and for whom they are dispersing the protests. Certainly not for Georgia," Zelensky emphasized.
Mass protests in Georgia have been going on for the seventh night. Thousands of people are protesting against the authorities' decision to postpone negotiations on the country's accession to the European Union until 2028. Special forces are forcibly dispersing demonstrators, with hundreds of people being detained and injured.
Earlier, three Baltic countries – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia – imposed sanctions against the Georgian government in response to the violent dispersal of protests in the country.
