Kobakhidze Envisions Georgia as a Regional Financial Hub

The Georgian government intends to strengthen the country’s position as a regional hub for finance, trade, and technological innovation. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced this at the second Tbilisi Financial Summit, which brought together approximately 800 participants from more than 50 countries.

In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted the role of initiatives by the government and the National Bank of Georgia in fostering competition within the financial market, driving innovation, and expanding digital services.

The Prime Minister also cited economic growth figures, noting that the average growth rate from 2021 to 2025 stood at 9.3%.

"This trend has continued into the current year; according to preliminary data, economic growth reached 7.6% during the first eight months of 2026. Notably, this robust economic growth is largely driven by the development of relatively high-productivity sectors, including the export of information and communication technology (ICT) services," the Prime Minister added.

Kobakhidze further emphasized the importance of foreign direct investment, particularly for the financial sector. He noted that international capital helps enhance competitiveness, facilitate the adoption of new technologies, and develop the country’s potential as a financial hub.

Kobakhidze linked these plans for developing such a hub to Georgia’s geographical location and its role in facilitating transport and trade links between Europe and Asia.

"Our strategic location, infrastructure, macroeconomic stability, and favorable investment climate provide a solid foundation for Georgia to emerge as a regional hub for trade, logistics, finance, and technological innovation," he stated.

The Tbilisi Financial Summit was held for the first time last year. The platform brings together representatives from the financial sector, the technology industry, and international institutions. According to the head of government, the event is intended to foster the development of economic ties among the countries of the Middle Corridor.
