Georgia's ruling party has initiated amendments to the Law on Assemblies and Manifestations and the Code of Administrative Offenses, the discussion and adoption of which will proceed expeditiously. According to the bill, organizers of events at "places where people move" will be required to notify state authorities in advance.
Five employees of the Russian agency Sputnik Azerbaijan with citizenship of this country were released on bail. Russian citizens, the head of the publication Igor Kartavykh and the editor-in-chief Yevgeny Belousov remain under arrest.
The Russian Consul in Azerbaijan met with both defendants. According to him, they are provided with medications and food, and feel fine.
Recall that on June 27, as part of an operation by Russian security forces in Yekaterinburg, two ethnic Azerbaijanis were killed and about 50 people were detained. Six people were sent to pretrial detention, many were tortured. A forensic examination in Azerbaijan established that the cause of death of the two Safarov brothers was post-traumatic shock caused by multiple rib fractures and other serious injuries. The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has opened a criminal case on the fact of torture and premeditated murder with particular cruelty of two citizens of the country and persons of Azerbaijani origin by Russian law enforcement officers.
On June 30, Azerbaijani police detained in Baku the editor-in-chief of the Russian state agency "Sputnik Azerbaijan" Igor Kartavykh and editor-in-chief Yevgeny Belousov. They were called FSB agents illegally working in Baku and arrested. In response, a number of Azerbaijani businessmen were detained in Russia.
