The Memorial Human Rights Center recognized Eduard Asanov, a citizen of the Russian Federation and Ukraine, a Crimean Tatar, as a political prisoner. In July 2024, he was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison on charges of participating in an illegal armed group.

Crimean Tatar Seyran Saliev was held in the punishment cell of IK-4 in the Tula region for more than four months. His wife was informed that he was recognized as a “malicious violator of the established order.” However, the administration of the colony did not explain what violations were in question.
During his stay in solitary confinement, the man lost 12 kilograms. Previously, in addition to the solitary confinement, he spent at least four months in other strict conditions of detention. Saliev’s eyesight deteriorated and his teeth were badly damaged.
Seyran Saliev is a philologist of the Turkish and Crimean Tatar languages. Before his arrest, he worked as a tour guide and journalist. In 2020, he was sentenced to 16 years on charges of involvement in the activities of the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir. It was recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation, but the organization operates freely in many countries in Europe and around the world.
