Crimean Tatar political prisoner spoke about inhumane conditions of detention in a Russian prison

Crimean Tatar Ernes Seytosmanov, sentenced to 17.5 years in prison, spoke about improper conditions in the Vladimir Central prison. In particular, the prisoner is kept in a cell measuring one and a half by two meters, which is designed for two people. There is no ventilation, it is very damp, and it has only recently become warm. You have to drink water from the tap.

Seytosmanov was sent to a punishment cell twice. He applied three times to speak with his relatives, but the administration did not respond to the request.

In the fall of 2023, the appeal court reduced Ernes Seytosmanov’s term of imprisonment from 18 to 17 and a half years. The lawyer clarified that all the witnesses in the case, except one secret witness, in the court of first instance renounced their testimony and admitted that they gave them under the threat of criminal prosecution.

In May 2023, the Southern District Military Court sentenced Ernes Seytosmanov to 18 years. He was found guilty of organizing the activities of the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in the Russian Federation, but legally operating in Europe. Later, the article was reclassified as participation and the term of imprisonment was slightly reduced.
