Forest fire in Dagestan has not been extinguished for three days

A forest fire broke out in the Akhtynsky district of Dagestan on March 15. As of today, the area of the fire has reached 14.6 hectares, the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.

According to preliminary information, the cause of the disaster was careless handling of fire. A local resident set fire to dry grass, which led to the spread of fire to the mountainside.

The head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, claims that there is no threat to populated areas and infrastructure facilities. The Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Forestry Committee, the police and more than 100 volunteers have been called in to extinguish the fire.
