Armenian Foreign Minister Expects Parliament to Pass Law on Accession to EU
The Armenian Parliament will likely approve the bill on the republic's accession to the European Union. This was stated by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
 
"The bill on accession to the European Union adopted by the Armenian government does not mention any deadlines or mechanisms. This is an initiative of civil society, organizations have collected the necessary 50 thousand votes, this initiative has automatically turned into a bill and this bill will be put to a vote in parliament," Mirzoyan concluded.
 
Recall that earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said that Armenia's discussion of the bill, which proposes the launch of the process of its European integration, can be seen as the beginning of the country's withdrawal from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The politician stressed that the EU and the EAEU are incompatible, including due to the fact that “both unions imply the absence of customs borders and the freedom of movement of goods, services, capital and labor.”
 
It is noteworthy that earlier, the speaker of the Armenian parliament, Alen Simonyan, claimed that Armenia does not plan to leave the EAEU.
