New US National Security Advisor Co-authors Report Calling Ivanishvili Putin's Ally
A former Special Forces officer, Republican Congressman Mike Waltz, will be appointed US National Security Advisor. This was announced by the country's President-elect Donald Trump.

In 2020, Mike Waltz co-authored a report by the Republican Study Committee (RSC) on national security strategy. In it, the founder of Georgia's ruling Georgian Dream party, oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili, was described as a "close ally of Putin."

"Bidzina Ivanishvili, the richest man in Georgia, is a close ally of Putin and is involved in destabilizing Georgia on behalf of Russia," the report noted.

The authors believed that US sanctions should apply to influential individuals in post-Soviet countries who contribute to the strengthening of pro-Russian influence. Georgia was referred to in the 2020 document as a "democratic ally of the United States."

The report also called for increased support for NATO, strengthening alliances and partners such as Ukraine and Georgia, which have faced aggression from Russia.
