Accused former mayor of Ingushetia's capital signed contract with Defense Ministry

In Ingushetia, the criminal case against Usman Aushev, the former mayor of the republic's capital, Magas, has been suspended. He was accused of abuse of office.

The decision was based on Aushev's contract with the Russian Defense Ministry for participation in the war with Ukraine. The court suspended the case, and the former official faced up to ten years in prison.

According to investigators, in January-February 2023, Aushev approved inflated estimates for a contract to repair and replace electrical networks in Ingushetia's capital. The damage to the city budget was estimated at 3.3 million rubles. Shortly thereafter, Aushev resigned voluntarily and left the republic. In September 2024, he was detained in Chechnya. He was held in pre-trial detention until March 2025, then transferred to house arrest.
