Oleg Orlov was transferred to the pre-trial detention center in Samara

The day before it became known that the co-chairman of the Memorial Human Rights Center Oleg Orlov was transferred from Moscow to Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1 in Samara. Neither the lawyers nor Orlov’s wife knew about this. It is possible that Samara is not the final destination.

Immediately after the arrest, Orlov’s wife Tatyana Kasatkina wrote a statement in which she asked not to send the human rights activist anywhere until the verdict came into force, describing him and her state of health as problematic.

According to Memorial, the transfer takes place in almost “torturous” conditions. People are transported in packed cells of special cars. Due to overcrowding, prisoners are forced to take turns sleeping. During long stays, it is prohibited to use the toilet.

Let us recall that on February 27, the Golovinsky Court of Moscow sentenced Oleg Orlov to 2.5 years in prison under the article on “repeated discrediting” of the army. The human rights activist was tried for an anti-war article in which he called the Putin regime fascist.
