An Olympic wrestler from Dagestan was banned from competing at the 2024 Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) did not allow Abdulrashid Sadulaev to participate in the qualifying tournament in Baku, where tickets to the Olympic Games in Paris are being played out. Alikhan Zhabrailov will compete for an Olympic berth. This was announced by the President of the FSBR, Mikhail Mamiashvili.

“Alas, even if Sadulayev comes to Baku, he will not be allowed to compete, he has a ban from the IOC. We were promptly contacted by the United World of Wrestling and given the opportunity to make a replacement as soon as possible - Alikhan Zhabrailov will perform in Baku,” Mamiashvili is quoted as saying.

Previously, Sadulayev was not allowed into Romania on a Schengen visa and was not allowed to compete at the European Championships.

Recently, two-time Olympic champion and multiple world champion in freestyle wrestling Abdulrashid Sadulayev called on his fellow countrymen from Dagestan not to succumb to provocations regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

“Millions of ordinary Muslims around the world are praying for their fellow believers, collecting humanitarian aid and waiting for this genocide to end. But our experiences for the Palestinians on October 29 in Makhachkala, unfortunately, took a bad turn. Our young and hot guys acted on emotions. I hope that the authorities and law enforcement agencies will meet them halfway and reduce their punishment. This will be better for everyone,” the athlete wrote on social networks.

According to Sadulayev, the desire to express solidarity and protest, to show unity with Muslims around the world should not be accompanied by chaos and unrest. He urged to restrain emotions and not succumb to provocations.

On October 29, in Makhachkala, local residents broke into the airport runway after the arrival of a flight from Tel Aviv. It was reported that they were looking for arriving Israeli citizens.
