Father of flight attendant who died in Embraer 190 crash denies receiving insurance payment

The Russian Foreign Ministry has made a statement about the payment of about $4 million (358.4 million rubles) to the victims and relatives of those killed in the crash of the Azerbaijani Embraer 190 airliner. However, the father of the flight attendant on board, Hokuma Aliyeva, disputed this statement in an interview with the Azerbaijani publication Modern.az.

According to Jalil Aliyev, no payments were made to his family.

“We do not know when the payments were made. This is a lie,” he said.

Recall that on September 4, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that AZAL received full compensation from the insurer AlfaStrakhovanie for the lost airliner in the amount of about $12 million. In addition, according to the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the claims of 46 passengers have been fully settled: 7 out of 15 Russian citizens, 35 out of 38 Azerbaijani citizens, all three Kyrgyz citizens, and one out of six Kazakh citizens have received compensation. The amounts of payments are allegedly still being agreed upon with the remaining victims and relatives of the deceased.

In response to the publication of the Russian department, the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Aykhan Hajizade, said that the insurance payments of AZAL have nothing to do with the compensation that Baku demands from Moscow in connection with the crash of the airliner. He called attempts to equate these concepts incorrect. According to him, the consequences of the tragedy and the persecution of Azerbaijanis in Russia remain a source of tension between the countries.

Hokuma Jalil kizi Aliyeva is an Azerbaijani stewardess, senior flight attendant of the Embraer E190 airliner, who died at the age of 33. She was awarded the title of "National Hero of Azerbaijan" posthumously.
