Pashinyan: Armenia is transforming relations with Russia

Armenia does not want to argue with Russia, but relations with it are being transformed. Now there is a transition from relations between “historical Armenia” and Russia to relations between “real Armenia” and Russia. This is sometimes as painful as the internal transformation in the country. This statement was made in parliament in Yerevan by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

He also added that the stay of the EU civilian mission in Armenia could be extended for another two years. “The observation mission of the European Union is very important, which provides objective information about the situation on the border with Azerbaijan,” Pashinyan said. According to him, the creation of a combat-ready army is the sovereign right of any state, but Armenia does not intend to enter into an arms race with Azerbaijan.

Earlier, Nikol Pashinyan noted that his country has no other choice but to move towards Europe. He also repeatedly criticized the military-political bloc CSTO, which is under Russian influence, and announced the suspension of Armenia’s participation in it. Secretary of the country's Security Council Armen Grigoryan reported that in 2020, 96% of Yerevan's military-technical cooperation was with the Russian Federation, and since 2021, Russia's share has collapsed to 10%.
