Opposition figure Gulu Mammadli stated that the arrest of Ali Karimli, leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was expected, but the reasons go beyond simple criticism of the authorities. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan traveled to Denmark to participate in the Democracy Summit. As part of the summit, a conference entitled “From the Front Line: Defending Democracy in Armenia” was held.
Answering the question from the host of the event, “In what year would you like Armenia to become a member of the EU?”, the Prime Minister cheerfully answered: “This year.”
Earlier, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan stated that “Armenia receiving the status of a candidate for EU membership is the most correct and desirable option.” He also added that “Armenia always followed this path until it was pulled into another system.”
Currently, marches are taking place in Yerevan to protest against the demarcation and delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Participants in the disobedience action are building barricades from garbage cans and road signs. The police detain the participants, then release them.
The leader of the protest, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, outlined his goals the day before – the resignation of Pashinyan and the return of the Armenian population to Nagorno-Karabakh.
