Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said in parliament that the country intends to withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the timing has not yet been determined. Recently, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan said that “Russia “cheated” and deceived” his country. According to Simonyan, Russia allowed a 44-day war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) last year and did nothing to protect Armenia as an ally within the CSTO from Azerbaijan.
On May 8, the Armenian Foreign Ministry announced that Yerevan will not participate in the approval of the CSTO annual budget and financing of the organization. On February 23, in an interview with France24, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the freeze of Armenia’s participation in the CSTO due to its failure to comply with the collective security treaty.
In addition to Armenia, the CSTO includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
