Pashinyan reproaches Aliyev for using the term "Zangezur corridor" in relation to the TRIPP project

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan criticized Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for calling the Trump Route – Path to International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project the "Zangezur corridor".

Speaking at the SCO summit in China on September 1, Pashinyan recalled that in the joint declaration of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States, signed on August 8 in Washington, the parties agreed to use the term TRIPP. According to him, this should contribute to "creating a constructive atmosphere and continuing the work."
The Armenian prime minister stressed that Aliyev's interpretation does not correspond to the agreements reached in the United States. He also noted that TRIPP is a continuation of Yerevan's "Crossroads of Peace" initiative, presented in the fall of 2023.

Earlier at the same summit, Aliyev said that the "Zangezur Corridor" would become an important element of the Middle and North-South transport routes, strengthening peace and regional cooperation. However, in Armenia, such a formulation is perceived as a hint at territorial claims to the Syunik region and demands for an extraterritorial corridor.

Despite the agreements reached in Washington, Baku and Ankara continue to use both names - TRIPP and the "Zangezur Corridor".

The Washington summit with the participation of Pashinyan, Aliyev and US President Donald Trump ended with the signing of a seven-point statement. The document enshrines US participation in unblocking the transport route through Armenia, which will connect Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan.
