The body of Abakar Abakarov, the former co-founder of the Russian Congress of the Peoples of the Caucasus and the alleged owner of the "Utro Dagestan" Telegram channel, was found in a rented villa in Istanbul. The Fourth Court of Cassation of General Jurisdiction changed the sentence of prisoner IK-2 in Kalmykia, a native of Dagestan, Magomed Atimagomedov, from 25 years in prison to life imprisonment. He was found guilty of assaulting institution staff and inciting mass riots. One of them died from wounds, the other suffered serious harm to his health. Six more colony employees were injured.
Earlier, another prisoner from Dagestan, Daud Kuramagomedov, received a life sentence. According to the defense of both convicts, the attack on the colony staff was preceded by repeated torture against Atimagomedov and Kuramagomedov. About 40 guards tortured prisoners, but only five people were detained as part of the criminal case.
Previously, law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case on the use of sexual violence against prisoners. For victims of burns and cuts, salt was poured onto their wounds. They sprayed pepper spray in their faces and poured boiling water over their bodies. In addition to the two indicated persons, eight more people were subjected to torture - all Muslims.
