Opposition figure Gulu Mammadli stated that the arrest of Ali Karimli, leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was expected, but the reasons go beyond simple criticism of the authorities. According to Mammadli, Karimli's publications in major Western media have increased his political significance and visibility abroad, which has caused concern among the Azerbaijani authorities.
Russian authorities will allocate over 10 million rubles in compensation to the families of those killed and injured in the terrorist attacks in Dagestan in the summer of 2024, when churches and synagogues were attacked. Over 7.8 million rubles will be allocated for payments to the families of the deceased, and over 1.8 million rubles will be allocated for those injured.
In August, at a hearing of the Southern District Military Court, six of the 11 defendants accused of involvement in these terrorist attacks pleaded not guilty (the other five were killed). Before the trial, three of the defendants, Magomed, Khalid, and Zaur Magomedov, claimed that the weapons and explosives were planted on them.
As a reminder, on June 23, 2024, in Makhachkala and Derbent, attackers attacked religious sites and police officers, resulting in the deaths of 20 people and the injury of 46 others.
