Policemen from Dagestan were not imprisoned for beating a woman and extorting

The Khasavyurt City Court sentenced policemen Shamil Aliyev and Ramazan Saipulaev to suspended sentences. They were found guilty of abuse of power with the use of violence and falsification of evidence, the Team Against Torture reported.

Both defendants do not have the right to work in law enforcement agencies for three years, but they were not deprived of their special ranks. Let us remind you that the prosecutor requested 5.5 years in prison for them.

In October 2022, Aliyev and Saipulaev were sentenced to 3.5 years in prison. However, after complaints from lawyers, the Supreme Court of Dagestan sent the criminal case for a new trial. Then the prosecutor asked to assign them more serious sentences.

According to investigators, on March 26, 2020, law enforcement officers detained local resident Yulduz Kurashova in Khasavyurt and took her to the department. There they started beating her on the head and body, demanding to pay 500 thousand rubles. Otherwise, they threatened to kill the woman or plant drugs on her. Fearing for her life, she agreed to give the money. On the same day, a criminal case was opened against Kurashova under the article on illegal trafficking in potent or toxic substances (Article 234 of the Criminal Code). Later it was stopped, recognizing her right to rehabilitation.
