During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. The Khasavyurt City Court in Dagestan is re-examining the case of torture against local resident Yulduz Kurashova. In the dock are former police officers Shamil Aliyev and Ramazan Saipulaev. They are accused of abuse of power with the use of violence and falsification of evidence, “Team Against Torture reported.”
In October 2022, both defendants were sentenced to 3.5 years in prison. However, after complaints from lawyers, the Supreme Court of Dagestan sent the criminal case for a new trial. Now the prosecutor asked that Aliyeva and Saipulaeva be sentenced to five and a half years in prison.
According to investigators, on March 26, 2020, law enforcement officers detained local resident Yulduz Kurashova in Khasavyurt and took her to the department. There they started beating her on the head and body, demanding to pay 500 thousand rubles. Otherwise, they threatened to kill the woman or plant drugs on her. Fearing for her life, she agreed to give the money.
On the same day, a criminal case was opened against Kurashova under the article on illegal trafficking in potent or toxic substances (Article 234 of the Criminal Code). Later it was stopped, recognizing her right to rehabilitation.
