After a complaint from human rights activists, the Crimean Tatar political prisoner will undergo a medical examination

Since 2018, from the day of his arrest, due to a long stay in a pre-trial detention center and colony of the Tambov region No. 1, Server Mustafayev developed heart problems. The human rights organization Front Line Defenders sent a complaint to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation about the failure to provide medical care to the Crimean Tatar, after which he was prescribed a full heart examination.

Since August last year, Mustafayev continues to be kept under strict conditions of detention (SCC), which is why he is not allowed to go out for walks outside of the schedule. He was also registered as “prone to terrorism” and “extremism.”

Previously, the court rejected an appeal against the decision on the claim of violation of his rights. The political prisoner was confiscated from the Koran and medicines, and was not allowed to speak the Crimean Tatar language during calls with his family. He was also repeatedly placed in a punishment cell.

Server Mustafaev is the coordinator of the public association “Crimean Solidarity”, which provides legal, informational and social assistance to the families of political prisoners in Crimea. In 2020, the Southern District Military Court sentenced him to 14 years in prison on charges of participation in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir. It is prohibited in the Russian Federation, but operates freely in Ukraine and other countries of the world and Europe.
