In the self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia, a court sentenced Shalva Khizanishvili to six years and nine months in prison. He was accused of espionage and illegal possession of weapons.
Human rights activists are making efforts to determine the whereabouts of Khava and Movsar Movlaev, Movlaev's parents, who were forcibly removed to an unknown location in Chechnya. Their fate remains uncertain.
Human rights activist Maxim Rudnev officially notified the Investigative Committee of Chechnya and the Prosecutor's Office of the couple's disappearance, as reported to the "Slovo Zashchity" project.
"We are working to locate Mansur's parents and assist him in obtaining asylum in Kazakhstan," he noted.
Furthermore, Rudnev reported that inquiries regarding the Movlaev case have been sent to international human rights organizations and the UN Human Rights Committee.
Earlier, on June 3, it was reported that Movlaev's brother, Zelimkhan, had been abducted and subjected to violence in Chechnya. On June 6, information emerged about the forcible removal of his parents to an unknown location.
As a reminder, Mansur Movlaev was detained in Chechnya in 2022 and unlawfully imprisoned, from which he managed to escape. In January 2023, he moved to Kyrgyzstan. In August of that year, while wanted in Russia on charges of financing extremism, Movlaev was arrested in Kyrgyzstan.
In May 2025, he was detained in Kazakhstan for extradition. On January 30, 2026, it was announced that the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan had approved his extradition to Russian law enforcement agencies, but Movlaev's defense team challenged the decision. In February, the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan temporarily suspended the extradition pending the review of his asylum application. On June 14, he complained of violations of his rights in an Almaty pretrial detention center. According to Movlaev, one of the guards insulted him on ethnic grounds, threatened him, and provoked him.
