Armenian Prime Minister: Yerevan is not Moscow’s ally on the Ukraine issue

Armenia is not an ally of Russia on the issue of Ukraine. This was stated by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan at a meeting with representatives of the Armenian diaspora in Germany. “It pains us very much that we cannot influence this situation. The Ukrainian people are friendly people,” the politician said.

Previously, Pashinyan stated the need to change the Constitution of Armenia. They want to make amendments to the draft of the new Constitution, according to which “Armenia will declare itself a neutral country on whose territory foreign armed forces cannot be stationed on a permanent basis.” The authoritative Armenian newspaper Hraparak writes about this. It is emphasized that this is directed against Russian bases and border troops.

The same publication reported that the purpose of personnel changes in the Armenian Armed Forces is to get rid of military personnel who went through the Russian school and have Russian influence. It is noted that the system is being cleared of pro-Russian soldiers, and “NATO cadres” are entering the arena. The exception is the new commander of the Armenian-Russian joint group of troops Budagyan and several other people. According to the source, these appointments are “symbolic... so as not to upset the Russian generals.”
