Prime Minister of Georgia: “We will not abandon the law on foreign agents”

Criticism of the West will not be a reason for Georgia to reconsider its decision to adopt a bill on foreign agents. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated this at a briefing. There was no argument behind any of these criticisms, he said.

Earlier, Irakli Kobakhidze called the opponent of the law on foreign agents, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, an agent of foreign influence of the global war party. This is how he reacted to her words that she would not sign this law.

The day before, Salome Zurabishvili again criticized the bill on foreign agents, noting that it is a copy of Putin’s law.

“This is worrying because this is a copy of Putin’s law, which was adopted in 2012, and then gradually became stricter and developed. This is a law against the activities of NGOs, the activities of the media, this is a law against those international organizations of our partner countries, European countries, the USA or Great Britain, which support the independence of Georgia, the building of state institutions and economic development for the last 30 years or more,” Zurabishvili noted.

The general secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Kakha Kaladze, in turn, called opposition politicians, political parties and non-governmental organizations “fascists.” He stated that the mentioned entities put pressure on athletes, actors and representatives of other professions.

The former president and prime minister of the Russian Federation, the current deputy chairman of the Security Council, noted that “discussions around the law on foreign agents in Tbilisi moved into the sphere of street clashes and cheerful Georgian massacres in parliament.”

“Whoever calls such actions spontaneous protests, let him be the first to throw a stone at his own mirror. Behind all these rallies is an experienced and familiar Hollywood hand. The main thing that “protesters” don’t like about the law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence”, which the Georgian parliament is trying to pass, is that it is, you see, a “Russian idea” and not a Western initiative.

A month earlier, a wave of fierce criticism from Western countries was caused by the adoption in Kyrgyzstan of a law that obliges NPOs with foreign funding to register in a special register. Continuous moaning, shouting and threats from European and American pro-government dumpsters. And also insinuating but hostile appeals to the leadership of this country. How dare you? Who allowed it? An internal matter of the state? Security, sovereignty, independence? No, we haven't heard. This is not for you... Behind all this is the arrogance and impotent anger of those who are increasingly being given direct rebuff and do not want to obey. Advice is not heeded with servility. Intervention is stopped. A year ago, by the way, the US State Department, through its official representative Price, expressed particular “satisfaction” when the Georgian authorities withdrew the previous draft of the law currently being discussed. Because (literally) the document was “incompatible with Euro-Atlantic values.” Well, yes, it's true. The values are different. The Black Sea is not the Atlantic, Georgia is not Georgia, despite the similarity of the names.”
