Armenian President: Yerevan is no longer Moscow's "little brother"

In an interview with RTVI, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan announced the transition from the "little brother" model to an equal partnership with Russia. He emphasized that Yerevan intends to continue fulfilling its obligations within the EAEU and develop cooperation with the EU, despite Moscow's warnings about the incompatibility of these two directions.

Khachaturyan emphasized that the Armenian government independently determines its foreign policy based on the interests of the republic. He also noted the continuing economic interdependence between Yerevan and Moscow.

The President commented on the statements of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk about the need to choose between the EAEU and the EU, noting that Armenia successfully combines participation in both unions. Khachaturyan also criticized the incorrect, in his opinion, coverage of Armenian-Russian relations in the Russian media. This refers to the events of April, when Armenia launched the process of rapprochement with the EU without applying for membership.
