The President of Georgia and the opposition again criticized the law on foreign agents adopted by the “pro-Russian” government

An opponent of the law on foreign agents, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili spoke about the decision being discussed by parliament in an interview with CNN. According to her, the country's population will never allow a government that is clearly pro-Russian to remain its government, because it contradicts its basic existential choice. “This is a choice that Georgia has always made throughout its centuries-old history and which will not change,” Zurabishvili emphasized.

Six Georgian opposition parties published a joint statement regarding the law on foreign agents. They are convinced that the entire Georgian people and the civilized world are unanimous in the opinion that the bill initiated by the ruling party contradicts the Constitution of Georgia.

“It also contradicts the will of the Georgian people to become a full member of the European Union and NATO, as well as the long-term goal of ensuring the sovereignty of our country. The frightened Russian oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili, using an aggressive parliamentary group and a brutal police unit, is trying to kill the European future of Georgia, which is opposed by a solidary, strong and united Georgian society,” the parties said in a written statement.

Mass protests are taking place in Tbilisi against the law on foreign agents, which could infringe on the rights and freedoms of the media and non-profit organizations. Previously, participants demanded a meeting with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. He didn't meet them. The ruling Georgian Dream party has no plans to withdraw the bill.
