Georgian President reminds Abkhazia of Russian occupation of its territory

Georgian President Zurabishvili commented on the protests in Abkhazia, condemning Russia's actions to annex it. In addition, the Georgian leader expressed solidarity with the residents of Abkhazia, who "resist attempts to introduce Russian legislation."
"I want to respond to the events taking place in occupied Abkhazia. And also to respond to Russian policy and condemn the fact that today Russia is taking accelerated steps towards its annexation. Concessions cannot force Russia to change its policy. We see what is happening in occupied Abkhazia, they are also trying to implement Russian law there and civil society has spoken out against it. I want to express solidarity with them," Zurabishvili said.
The day before, protests against expanding cooperation with Russia broke out again in the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia. The protesters broke through to the parliament building, demanding the cancellation of the ratification of the investment agreement, which, according to the opposition, undermines the economic sovereignty of the republic, opens the door to Russian oligarchs and legalizes the sale of apartments under the guise of multifunctional complexes. According to media reports, the authorities, under pressure from the protesters, decided to withdraw the document. In addition, due to the protests, Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania announced his readiness to leave his post and call new elections, which, among other things, the protesters demanded.
