Georgian President Accuses Ruling Party of ‘Pro-Russian Orientation’
Speaking about the activities of the ruling Georgian Dream party, controlled by billionaire oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili noted that “its pro-Russian orientation is becoming more and more obvious with each passing day.”

“Georgian Dream knows that they will no longer be able to win parliamentary elections with votes. That is why they tell us that from the outside they want to organize a revolution and overthrow the government, and it turns out that we want this and you want it… When you give in to your enemy, make incredible concessions in all respects, what are you doing when Russia is the country we know? You whet its appetite and nothing more,” Zurabishvili said at a briefing.

According to her, the election campaign of the Georgian Dream, instead of positive promises, "consists of fear, threats, promises of revenge." As the president noted, the ruling party no longer has hope of winning through votes and is trying to lead society into confrontation in order to then legitimize the use of force.

The United States is considering the possibility of introducing sanctions against the founder of the Georgian Dream, former Russian citizen Bidzina Ivanishvili. It is noted that the work on the sanctions package will be carried out by the US Treasury and State Department.
