Moscow has reiterated its key role in establishing peace in the South Caucasus. Russia issued a statement marking the fifth anniversary of the November 9, 2020, trilateral agreement to end the military conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia has brought new charges against the third president of the country, Serzh Sargsyan, for embezzlement and money laundering on an especially large scale. According to investigators, he illegally acquired real estate on the territory of the Yerablur military pantheon. The defendant was given a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave.
In 2019, Sargsyan was charged with organizing the embezzlement of state funds on an especially large scale, as well as helping a company win a tender for the supply of diesel fuel. He was then acquitted.
Serzh Sargsyan served as president of Armenia for almost ten years (until 2018). He was forced to resign after the "Velvet Revolution" led by current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
