A case has been opened against an Ossetian human rights activist for criticizing the war in Ukraine

A criminal case has been opened against a former resident of Beslan, human rights activist Vissarion Aseyev, under the article on public calls for terrorist activity (Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code). In March 2022, shortly after the start of the "SVO", he wrote on Facebook: "Why the hell are Ossetians going to die in Ukraine? Stay at home! If you want to kill, kill Putin!"

Aseyev currently lives in Kyiv. He was a deputy of the assembly of representatives of the Right Bank District of North Ossetia, helped the former Beslan hostages, including organizing medical care for them.

Aseyev has repeatedly organized protests against the authorities and the abolition of the election of governors. He actively opposed political repression. In 2023, he was fined under the article on “discrediting” the army for condemning the annexation of Crimea to Russia in one of his posts.
