Ramzan Kadyrov: No "way back" for critics who fled to Europe

In a post on his Telegram channel, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, lashed out at natives of the republic who have moved to Europe and criticize his rule from abroad. He accused them of s,landering their own people and declared that there is nowhere left for them to return to.

Kadyrov began his post by describing how he personally took part in harvesting pomegranates in his own orchard and planting a young tree. He then listed the factors that, in his view, ensure the well-being of Chechnya’s residents: the payment of pensions and social benefits, and the construction of schools, hospitals, sports complexes, and roads.

"Against this backdrop, one can only feel contempt for those pathetic traitors who once fled to Europe. Living off handouts and being fed by others, they try—from abroad—to slander their own people, spread dirty gossip, and undermine the peace and order for which thousands of the finest, most worthy sons of the Chechen nation—led by our First President, Hero of Russia Akhmat-Khadzhi Kadyrov—gave their lives," the head of the republic stated indignantly.

Kadyrov did not mention any specific names, nor did he provide examples of the publications or statements by those who left Chechnya that he characterizes as "dirty gossip."

"There is no way back for these pseudo-patriots. They have sold their honor and dignity, severed their roots, and are absolutely not wanted here by anyone. Chechen soil has always been, and will always be, a bastion of courage, honor, and loyalty to the traditions of our ancestors—and there is no place here for those who have betrayed the memory of our heroes!" Kadyrov concluded. Following this jab, he returned to the topic of the region’s development, promising that the authorities would continue to “work, develop our beloved republic, and move confidently along a path of peace and constructive endeavor.”
