Reporters Without Borders demand the release of Azerbaijani political prisoners-journalists

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) together with Azerbaijani media launched a solidarity campaign called "Blow Them Out with a Fan" in support of Azerbaijani journalist Sevinj Vagifgizi and her colleagues at Abzas Media.

Vagifgizi, who is in a Baku pretrial detention center, has been deprived of a fan due to her continued publications on human rights violations. As part of the campaign, citizens are invited to send letters and postcards of solidarity, which will be delivered to the prison. RSF and Azerbaijani media demand the release of all arrested journalists and an end to political persecution. The campaign aims to support dignity, justice and international support for independent press.

The employees of Abzas Media are known for investigating corruption cases related to the entourage of the President of Azerbaijan. They were detained in November 2023. Human rights activists consider the charges politically motivated. The journalists were sentenced to 7-9 years in prison.
