The Russian Federation has put Akhmed Zakaev on the wanted list

The head of the government of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in exile, Akhmed Zakaev, was accused by the Russian authorities under Part 1 of Art. 205.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (creation of a terrorist community) and Part 2 of Art. 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public justification of terrorism using the Internet). He is on the international wanted list.

“In July 2022, while on the territory of Ukraine, Akhmed Zakaev, having proclaimed himself the leader of the so-called independent Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and united in a stable group with Yusupov, Dzhambetov, as well as other persons unidentified by the investigation, created a terrorist community called “Separate Special Purpose Battalion Ministry of Defense of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria as part of the Foreign Legion of Ukraine,” the case file says.

Along with Zakayev, Murad Yusupov, who is also on the international wanted list, is accused in the case.

“The Chechens have not forgotten anything and, paying tribute to the memory of the Ukrainians who supported them in repelling Russian aggression, are now fighting on the side of Kyiv. Today Russia's last war is taking place. As an empire, it will not survive, the Chechens will not be satisfied with a change of regime - only a complete transformation of the state,” Akhmed Zakaev explained on the FREEDOM TV channel the support of the government of Ichkeria for Ukraine and the participation of volunteer Chechen formations on its side.

Let us recall that Dzhambetov, who appears in the criminal case as a member of the “terrorist community,” returned to Chechnya back in May 2023 and announced his support for Ramzan Kadyrov.

Hussein Dzhambetov, who introduced himself as the head of the information and analytical department of the OBON of Ichkeria, stated then that he decided to come to his homeland voluntarily in order to “open the doors for the return of real men... who love freedom, their homeland, their people, the religion of Islam, the Koran and the Sunnah.”

Akhmed Zakaev explained the action of his former ally with mental health problems.
