New ban on imports of Armenian products to Russia—this time, dairy
Rosselkhoznadzor has imposed a ban on the import of dairy products from Armenia following inspections of several of the country's facilities. The Russian agency stated that the inspections revealed violations related to the production of goods destined for the Russian market.
According to Rosselkhoznadzor, inspections conducted between July 14 and 21 found that some facilities were using milk from infected livestock. The agency claims that these products were intended, in part, for export to Russia.
Rosselkhoznadzor stated that the restrictions were introduced to prevent the entry of "highly dangerous infections" and unsafe dairy products into the country.
Furthermore, the Russian agency criticized Armenia's oversight system. Its statement noted that, in Rosselkhoznadzor's view, Armenian authorities are failing to ensure adequate control over agricultural producers. One cited reason for this is the aftermath of the public administration reform carried out in 2019.
This latest ban is part of a series of restrictions on Armenian imports. Since late May, Russian agencies have progressively banned the import or sale of flowers, "Jermuk" mineral water, products from three Armenian wine and brandy producers, and subsequently, vegetables, fruit, fish, and other regulated agricultural products.
