Azerbaijani opposition journalist Afgan Mukhtarli commented on the house arrest and criminal prosecution of former head of the presidential administration Ramiz Mehdiyev, calling it logical and symbolic.

The chairman of the national-cultural autonomy of Azerbaijanis in the Moscow Region, Elshan Ibragimov, has been stripped of his Russian citizenship. This decision was allegedly made due to "committing actions that pose a threat to Russia's national security."
Ibragimov was listed on the website of the Moscow Region Public Chamber as a member of the Advisory Council for the Affairs of National-Cultural Autonomies of the Region. Information about him has already been removed from the resource. Answering the question "What do you attribute this decision of the Russian authorities to?", Ibragimov said that he would comment on this after returning to Azerbaijan in a few days.
Recall that on June 27, as part of an operation by Russian security forces in Yekaterinburg, two ethnic Azerbaijanis were killed and about 50 people were detained. Six of them were sent to pretrial detention, many were tortured. A forensic medical examination in Azerbaijan has established that the cause of death of the two Safarov brothers was post-traumatic shock caused by multiple rib fractures and other serious injuries. The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has opened a criminal case on the fact of torture and premeditated murder with particular cruelty of two citizens of the country and persons of Azerbaijani origin by Russian law enforcement officers.
On June 30, Azerbaijani police detained Igor Kartavykh, editor-in-chief of the Russian state agency Sputnik Azerbaijan, and editor-in-chief Yevgeny Belousov in Baku. They were called FSB agents illegally working in Baku and arrested. In response, a number of Azerbaijani businessmen were detained in Russia.
