Russian lawyers supported lawyers of Dagestan natives tortured in the colony

The National Association of Lawyers of Russia (NAJR) spoke on behalf of lawyer Aza Aliyeva, who provided information about torture of natives of Dagestan in the Kalmykia colony and violence in the Saratov region. Earlier, UFSIN in Saratov region filed a complaint against Aliyeva to the Regional Chamber of Lawyers and demanded that she be disciplined for revealing torture practices.

Aza Aliyeva’s lawyer defends the rights of victims in the Federal Penitentiary Service institutions and tries to protect them from pressure from violators, as stressed by the National Association of Lawyers of Russia. The work of human rights defenders had led to the discovery of cases of torture, abuse of authority and violations of prisoners' rights. The NAJUR considers it unacceptable to harass lawyers for their professional activities.

Aza Aliyeva defends the natives of Dagestan, Mohammed Atimagomedov and Daud Kuramagomedov, who are accused of attacking employees of the Kalmyk colony and calling for mass unrest. They were repeatedly tortured.
