Roza Dunaeva: Brothers of a man who fled forced mobilization in Chechnya have been abducted

In Chechnya, Akhmad and Salakh Khaskhanov—brothers of Arbi Khaskhanov, who escaped from a military base in Khankala to avoid being sent to fight in the war against Ukraine—have been abducted. This was reported by the outlet *Kavkaz.Realii*, citing human rights defender Roza Dunaeva, who represents Ichkeria in Austria. According to her, the relatives are being held in an effort to force the young man himself to return to the republic.

Dunaeva explained that Arbi Khaskhanov was slated to serve in the 270th Motorized Rifle Regiment "Akhmat-Kavkaz" but managed to leave the military base. He is currently in Slovakia, where he is seeking asylum.

After leaving Chechnya, Khaskhanov ended up in France, where, according to the human rights defender, he was repeatedly attacked by unknown individuals. She suggested that these attacks might have been carried out by people with ties to Chechnya.

"This story is about more than just the fate of one individual. It illustrates how attempting to evade forced mobilization can create danger not only for the person themselves but also for their family. When relatives remain in their homeland while a loved one is forced to seek refuge abroad, the constant fear for their lives becomes an ongoing ordeal," Dunaeva said.

On October 15, the Chechen opposition movement NIYSO reported the abduction of 12 residents of the village of Novoterskoye. According to the movement, they have been missing since October 12. The activists have published a list of their names.
