According to the latest report from Freedom House, an international organization that assesses freedoms and human rights, Georgia's freedom score declined by four points, dropping to 51 out of a possible 100. The main reasons cited for this deterioration were the large-scale anti-government protests that began in 2024 and continued into 2025.
The path to Russification is not an alternative. For some fraternal, small Caucasian peoples, this path was tragic. It is also fatal for the Abkhaz language, culture and identity. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili stated this while speaking in parliament.
According to Zurabishvili, Europe is a space where free nations, many languages, minorities and regions, diverse cultures are protected by equality and law. At the same time, the most tragic thing for the country is to remain isolated, alone with Russia, the president noted.
Salome Zurabishvili called the restoration of air traffic between Russia and Georgia, the presence of a Russian cruise ship in the port of Batumi, as well as the image of Stalin on the icon of St. Matrona in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Tbilisi as provocations and part of Moscow’s hybrid strategy.
