28 years since the killing of civilians in the Chechen village of Samashki

On 7-8 April 1995, during the first Russian-Chechen war, Russian troops, conducting a sweep of the village of Samashki, Achkhoy-Martanovsky district, killed, according to various estimates, at least 100 civilians. This number was reported by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. The International Committee of the Red Cross announced the death of 250 civilians.

28 years ago in April the military command of the Russian Federation presented the residents of Samashek with an ultimatum demanding to surrender a large number of weapons, which did not exist. Before the ultimatum expired, shelling of the village began, killing several people.

After that, the «sweep» began - shooting, throwing grenades at residential buildings. The report describing the punitive operation against the Chechen village has received wide resonance both in Russia and abroad.
