Azerbaijani opposition journalist Afgan Mukhtarli commented on the house arrest and criminal prosecution of former head of the presidential administration Ramiz Mehdiyev, calling it logical and symbolic.

On April 14, in the Novolaksky district of Dagestan, several police officers pulled the Minister of Emergency Situations of Chechnya, Alikhan Tsakaev, from a black SUV at the Gerzel checkpoint. He was detained for driving in the oncoming lane, insubordination and insulting police officers. As Baza reported, when he was taken to the premises of the Federal checkpoint, he rudely insulted the police and kicked two of them twice.
Soon, armed fighters from the Chechen National Guard arrived. They demanded that Tsakaev and his jeep be handed over to them under threat of violence. One of the National Guard hit the policeman several times. They obeyed, after which Tsakaev left, accompanied by security forces. According to Baza, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the North Caucasus Federal District ordered an internal inspection.
After the scandal, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, called for the Dagestani police to be “expelled from the structures with a bang.” According to him, Tsakaev was detained without explanation. He had no documents with him because he left on his day off.
“If Tsakaev had been in his general’s uniform, the post officers would have been afraid to even look in his direction. This is what happened later. When the attackers found out that they were dealing with a general who had a number of military merits and awards, they fled in cowardice,” Kadyrov said.
