The US again called on the Azerbaijani authorities to release Bakhtiyar Hajiyev.

The US President’s Administration again called on Azerbaijan to release activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev from detention. It was also supported by the head of the Agency for International Development and the former Secretary of State of the United States.
Azerbaijani democratic activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev has been detained since December on charges that are politically motivated. He must be released», wrote Samantha Power, head of the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also joined citizens in expressing concern about the arrest.
Baku court on the eve extended Baku Baku’s detention in remand centre for two months. His condition remains critical, said lawyer Shahla Gumbatov. He continues his hunger strike 46 days, lost 20 kg and weighs 64 kg.
Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was arrested on December 9 last year on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. European and US officials have repeatedly called on the Azerbaijani authorities to release the activist and other political prisoners.
