US expresses concern over tension in Karabakh

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. “The Secretary of State emphasized the urgent need for free passage of commercial, humanitarian and private vehicles through the Lachin corridor, as well as the need to compromise on alternative routes in order for goods to be delivered to the population of Nagorno-Karabakh,” said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

In turn, the press service of the President of Azerbaijan reported that during the conversation, Ilham Aliyev recalled the illegal presence of the Armenian military in Karabakh, armed provocations at the border, and attempts to illegally send humanitarian cargo to Azerbaijan. Aliyev stressed that the Armenian side refuses to have a dialogue with Baku, despite the repeated proposals of the Azerbaijani authorities.
