USA: Georgia's bill on foreign agents was inspired by the Kremlin

The United States is disappointed by the Georgian parliament's decision to promote the Kremlin-inspired law on foreign agents. This was stated by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

“We join our European allies in calling on Georgia not to pass laws that go against the desires of the vast majority of its citizens to be fully integrated into the EU,” Miller said.

According to him, Georgia has an active civil society that serves its citizens and works to improve the economy. If passed, the proposed law could restrict freedom of expression and interfere with independent media organizations that work to ensure Georgians have access to high-quality information.

Protests against the bill on foreign agents in Tbilisi continue for the fourth day. Thousands of people gather near the parliament building, and the police periodically disperse the crowd. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili regularly opposes the initiative of the ruling Georgian Dream party.
